A few weeks ago, I woke up to a loud noise in my bedroom. It was pitch black and it scared me. I continued to hear boxes crashing and when I turned on the light, to my display, my closet had completely collapsed. After turning on the light and seeing boxes fall, I heard the panels stripping and hitting the floor. In full transparency, I stood there for what felt like a lifetime in complete shock at what I was seeing.
Days later, a family friend came to look at it and informed me that this stripping was bound to happen because the tools used to hold the closet sections were not strong enough to hold the weight that I added. He said, the contractors used a piece of splinter (or something like that) instead of using a nail to hold the way. He then went on to fix the panels, adjusted the bars, and enclosed them to secure the weight.
Over the weeks to follow, I decided to purge my closet of clothing and items that I didn’t want or couldn’t fit. I filled up two contractor bags of items that looked pretty but were holding space. With the items remaining, I color coordinated (we listen and we don’t judge) them and hung them all. Once complete, I stepped back and noticed that not only was everything beautiful, but I could see everything.
What was once a mess and taking over, was now structured and clear. Having an organized closet made me purge more items and purchase storage bins to completely clean the house. I noticed that because things were clear, I felt calmer and more relaxed.
The thing I found most interesting is that what was intended to keep me stripped down and messy, became the fuel I needed to shift my literal atmosphere. I decided that to move into my next, I needed to make some changes.
I had to decide to do the work. Yes, it was hard, time-consuming, and messy, but the work was needed.
I had to unapologetically close some chapters (some of the clothing didn’t match my growing season).
I had to see what I desired in real-time (organization, clarity, creativity, peace, etc.)
And most importantly, I had to release some things that were familiar but not helpful in the season.
As we enter 2025, I want to share with you, that the Messy Split is necessary for your next season. It is time to declutter. We are often afraid to let go because we are familiar with something. It’s not even beneficial to where we are headed.
Ask yourself, Is keeping this (insert your this) hindering you from being free to do and be who God is calling you to be?
It is holding negative space in your being.
Does the thought of what you could lose keep you from seeing what you may gain?
If you read those questions and something or someone came to mind, I encourage you to also do the work. Release what is hindering you from moving into the new season.
Yes, God can work with a mess, but why are you holding on to it? What purpose does it serve you? How does God get the glory when you won't let go?
Don’t be afraid to declutter what keeps you from seeing and hearing God. There are amazing techniques available to help you to declutter your life. The most important technique is to allow God to lead and listen. Allow yourself to be immersed in his presence and allow Him to guide you. Write down whatever He speaks.
Know that because He loves you, he wouldn’t give you an instruction or command that would harm you.
This decluttering was not just about cleaning my closet. It was also about releasing spiritual clutter that found its way to my mind and heart.
You see, in the natural eye, the stripping was at a terrible time and cost me my convenience and money but in the spirit, it gave me clarity and focus to prepare for 2025.
What you are holding on to, may be hindering you from what you asked God for. Do you have room to receive what you asked?
Philippians 4:19 assures us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.
Remember Sister, Beautiful things are coming, just wait.
It's ok to let go of anything that doesn't bring you closer to the Father.
